Learn Zhan Zhuang, the Tai Chi standing meditation, with June. A Five Elements tea blend and TCM winter wisdom included. Align with winter's energy and preserve your vitality.
Winter asks something different of us. Where spring and summer call us outward, winter calls us to slow down, gather inward, and preserve our energy. This workshop arrives with Light Snow Jieqi (小雪 Xiǎo Xuě), the solar term when nature itself begins to conserve, and Traditional Chinese Medicine invites us to do the same. Working with winter's natural rhythm, we build strength for the spring ahead and protect our vitality through the cold months. Your guide is June, who reconnected with her Chinese cultural roots after years of global living, and who healed her own back pain and period cramps through Tai Chi and Traditional Chinese Medicine. She teaches from lived experience, with simple, practical steps anyone can follow. Over two hours, we will explore three elements. First, a guided Tai Chi standing meditation practice known as Zhan Zhuang (站桩), a simple yet powerful posture that cultivates deep inner strength and amplifies your vital energy, or Qi. It costs nothing, requires no equipment, and can be practiced anywhere, anytime. In stillness, the body roots, the breath settles, and the nervous system shifts from doing into being. Second, a Five Elements tea blend crafted to warm your essence and maintain vitality through the season when many struggle with fatigue and stagnation. And third, practical do's and don'ts for preserving energy during the cold months, drawn from Traditional Chinese Medicine philosophy. Where ancient practice meets nervous system science. You will leave with a practice you can carry through winter, and the wisdom to work with the season instead of pushing through it.
This workshop welcomes everyone, and no Tai Chi experience is needed. It is especially supportive for anyone who spends long hours at a desk feeling disconnected from their body, is tired of complex wellness routines that don't fit a busy life, feels drained by winter and wants natural ways to preserve energy, or is curious about Traditional Chinese Medicine and wants simple, practical steps. Please note that Zhan Zhuang is a standing practice, so if you have severe back, knee, or ankle injuries, join with caution and let us know before the session so we can support you with adaptations.
Wear comfortable tops and pants, and bring warm socks, as we keep the feet warm during practice. A bottle of water and a journal, if writing is part of your practice.
